The Consumer Electronics Show took place last week in Las Vegas, USA, and we all saw many new products, some which won't launch, being shown to dealers and journalists from around the world. But, what were best in show at this year's CES?
Motorola Atrix 4G
This mobile phone, made by Motorola, runs on the 4G networks found within the US and is, what some might say, a true Superphone. Being one of the first phones to feature connectivity to AT&T's up & coming 4G network, this Android 2.2 phone sports a hefty 1,930mAh Battery, 1GB of RAM, and a much anticipated nVIDIA Tegra 2 Processor. What makes this phone even more special is that it has accessories like a HD Multimedia Dock and a laptop dock. Now some might think that they're just a dock you put the phone in and let it charge/sync with your PC/Mac, well you're wrong, very wrong. The laptop dock is quite simple, you get in the package a laptop, the screen, keyboard & trackpad, and a dock behind the screen's hinge. You dock the phone in the Dock, and it turns the laptop accessory into a fully functional laptop running what seems to be a full version of Mozilla's Firefox browser, a Mac OSX style application dock, Flash 10.1 support, a File Manager, Citrix remote desktop support, and what seems to be a windowed UI, giving the Motorola Atrix 4G a fully blown PC, inside a mobile phone.
Blackberry PlayBook
Tablet Computers, some people would say you can't beat the iPad for this, some people would point to the recently announced Motorola Xoom or the Notion Ink Adam, but I point right at RIM's new baby, the PlayBook.
This brand new tablet coming out of the Canadian's offices is a new move by the company known for mobile phones such as the Torch, or the Bold & Curve series', and what a move it is. The PlayBook features a 1GHz OMAP 4430 Dual-Core Processor, 1GB RAM, 7inch 1024/600 display, 2 1080p HD webcams (5MP rear, 3MP front), and a truly amazing QNX based "Blackberry Tablet" OS. This device is truly stunning, it weighs only 400 grams, and is down to be competitively priced against the likes of the iPad and the newly annoucned tablets like the Motorola Xoom, this is definitely the best thing to come out of CES, in my eyes.
Photography Equipment
Call me crazy, but the camera to the left blew me away. The RED Scarlet, a 3K Camera for the professionals, and consumers (who've got the rumoured $20,000 it'll cost). I was blown away by this camera for the sheer awesomeness this camera holds, it's based on a Modular setup, meaning you can configure the camera to suit your needs. For instance, if you need mic inputs, you can get the module for it, there's a touchscreen monitor you can attach to the top, there's an SSD storage attachment along with a CF (Compact Flash) attachment, the list is pretty much endless.
Obviously there isn't much information about this camera, but I would recommend having a look at the video preview which has been put up on technology website Engadget. They get a guided tour of what I think is a true beast in professional level filming equipment.
There were a lot of announcements at CES this year, way too much to cover in 1 post, so I recommend anyone to have a wonder over to Engadget and CNET UK for their coverage of the event.
