iPod's and a TV Box

Apple has rweleased some new iPod's, and the long awaited version 2 of the Apple TV, about time if you ask me.

The new devices were released on 1st September to the world, and the event was streamed online, even if you did need a Mac or an iOS device to watch it. The event started at 6pm London time, and went on until around 7:30pm, showing the new products Apple are releasing for the holiday season, and also the look at the new build of iOS 4.2, due in November. Also released was iTunes 10, but I'll come to that one later.

So, the main event of this show? It had to be the Apple TV, as pictured to the left. The device is, as Steve Jobs says, 4x smaller than the previous Apple TV, but it seems Jobs and the team behind this "hobby" device are hoping for it to go big, this time around. The apple TV has never really been a big thing for apple, it's struggled in the past and never seemed to catch on like it's counterparts. The pricing of the new Apple TV is £99. I won't be getting one, I just don't see the need for it when you have a DVD/Blu-Ray player, or even a good TV package that includes movie channels and/or HD content. Oh, and if you don't have a HDTV? Forget it, the apple TV only works over HDMI!

Next up is the iPod Touch. I used to own one of these (2nd Generation) and it was a good device. There's something about this new one that screams "WANT!", and that's because it now houses a 720p HD camera on the back, and one on the front for Facetime calling! Also the new iPod Touch has the Apple A4 Chip, same Gyro that's in the iPhone and some other snazzy features built into the iOS operating system.

It starts at £189 and goes up to £329 for a 64GB model, that's pretty damn expensive, but then the features do justify the price. Will I get one? I'm not sure yet,

Also released during this event was a new iPod Nano range, and a new iPod Shuffle range. I dont' really see the need for the Shuffle anymore, it's 2GB in capacity, but at £39 it is the cheapest iPod available. So, onto iTunes 10, well there's not much to say about it. It's had a nice re-design on both Windows & Mac, and now includes the new Social Networking functionality, Ping.

Getting The Curve On

Yep, I got a new phone! I've made the move from Android and the dire HTC Hero, to a nice, cute little Blackberry Curve, specifically the 8520!

So, first impressions of the Curve? It's such a nice phone to use, the speed is just right, and the camera, for 2 MegaPixels, is bloody good quality! The phone is running Blackberry OS 5, after spending a hour updating it from BB OS 4, I'm glad I did, because the experience is enhanced in such a huge way. So, it all comes down to 1 thing now, moving from an Android phone, and previously using an iPod Touch, the major decision of mine was all down Applications.

Blackberry App World might not be known for being big, or being popular, but I am quite shocked at how good some of the applications are. I currently only use a select few, those mainly being the official Twitter, Flickr & Facebook apps, also using Windows Live Messenger and ofcourse Blackberry Messenger. The screen is just perfect for the apps, it's not too big, yet at the same time not too small.

So, now onto ow much it cost. I paid a very reasonable £140 for it, thanks to the very kind lady at the Carphone warehouse store for sorting me out a deal, and trading in my old phone to take a huge £80 off the price, meaning I only paid £60 towards it to get the phone. I also purchased 4 cases, 3 being Blackberry made silicon cases, and 1 Case-Mate silver case, they do the job well, but I've not taken off the black case, yet.

My first impressions of the device? I'm happy with it, it does the job perfectly and has a good app base if I wish to extend its abilities.

Lee Nelson's Well Good Show

Lee Nelson's Well Good Show, I never really got into the show at first, but it seems to be a good show, packed of funny moments, and a "proper good time". Basically, the whole show is surrounded around Lee Nelson, and he is such a funny guy, the show which is studio based, and it seems to work very well for some reason. The audience interaction is spot on for the type of show, always interacting with the audience, asking who's from where, for instance 1 was from Germany, and let's just say, it was very funny! FAQ's About Time Travel

I was scouring the TV on Sunday evening trying to find something to watch, and came across a British film, made by BBC Films, HBO films & Dog Lamp Films, called Frequently Asked Questions about Time Travel. I've never heard of the film, but gave it a shot and watched it, overall I'm really impressed by it.

The film based on 3 men, Ray (Played by Chris O'Dowd), Toby (Played by Marc Wootton) & Pete (Played by Dean Lennox Kelly), who travel back & forward in time through a toilet. Yeah, I thought that too, why a toilet?

The script, written by Jamie Mathieson, follows three social outcasts -- two geeks and a cynic -- as they attempt to navigate a time-travel conundrum in the middle of a British pub. Faris plays a girl from the future who sets the adventure in motion.

For more information about the film, Click Here. I'd happily rate the film a good 7/10, if you don't like Doctor Who, avoid this film, it's very Who'ish.

70-GigaPixel Image?!

It looks like someone's got way too much time on their hands then, as the record for the world's biggest digital based image has been broken, literally. We all know some time ago a 45-GigaPixel image of Dubai claimed the title as the world's biggest image, and now we've seen the amazing feat of a 70 Gigapixel, 200GB image of Budapest take the crown of the world's biggest digital based image.

The image is quite astonishing to look at, as reported on Engadget.

It's just been a few months since a 45-gigapixel panorama of Dubai claimed the title of world's largest digital photograph, but it's now already been well and truly ousted -- the new king in town is this 70-gigapixel, 360-degree panorama of Budapest. As with other multi-gigapixel images, this one was no easy feat, and involved two 25-megapixel Sony A900 cameras fitted with 400mm Minolta lenses and 1.4X teleconverters, a robotic camera mount from 360world that got the shooting done over the course of two days, and two solid days of post-processing that resulted in a single 200GB file -- not to mention a 15-meter-long printed copy of the photograph for good measure. Of course, what's most impressive is the photo itself. Hit up the source link below and start zooming in.

River Caves, Engineering Beauty

Possibly the best ride related POV (Point Of View) video I've seen. This might be a bit bias of me, being a fan of the Pleasure Beach, but I really do like this video. The ride in question is River Caves, a ride dating back to 1905.
